Research & Open Work

A reproducible economic simulation with a DOI, numbered research protocols that publish their negative results, a public legal library, and seventeen Layer-1 workspaces under audit.

Chapter 01

Why it exists

Claims about digital economies, agent behaviour and settlement should be reproducible by someone who does not work here. UnyKorn publishes its research code, its run logs and its verdicts, including the ones that say "no effect".

This line also keeps the company honest about its own Layer-1 ambitions: seventeen Rust workspaces exist on disk, some runnable, none on a public mainnet, and this report says so rather than counting them as products.

A protocol that cannot show its run log is an opinion.
Chapter 02

Global context

The BIS unified-ledger literature and the Findex data are the two public bodies of work this research line reads most closely: one describes how tokenised finance should settle, the other describes who is still outside it. Genesis exists to test economic claims in a closed world before anyone makes them about the open one.

BIS · Annual Economic Report 2025, Chapter III, "The next-generation monetary and financial system" (June 2025)

Sets three tests any monetary system must pass: singleness (money settles at par, no questions asked), elasticity (supply expands to meet payment needs), integrity (resistance to financial crime). Finds that stablecoins fall short on all three and that tokenisation of central bank reserves, commercial bank deposits and government bonds on a unified ledger can "enable the contingent performance of actions": operations that execute only when their preconditions are met.

EXTERNAL

World Bank Group · Global Findex Database 2025

"79% of adults globally now have an account." "40% of adults in developing economies saved in a financial account in 2024, a 16-percentage-point increase since 2021 and the fastest rise in more than a decade." "84% of adults in LMICs own a mobile phone and 3 billion have smartphones."

Chapter 03

What we built

Genesis is a deterministic, closed-economy, multi-agent simulation in Rust with an energy ledger inspired by cellular metabolism. The BIO convention numbers each research protocol, ships a reproduction script, and publishes the verbatim run log and data. The legal library is a public, MIT-licensed set of primers on real-world-asset issuance, contract law and the relevant statutes. The Layer-1 inventory is a dated audit across all four code roots on the founder's machines.

15 crates; 388 test functions counted on 2026-09-10 (the repository's own documentation says 403); 6,820 worlds, 44 experiments, about 3.41 million epochs reported in the repository; DOI 10.5281/zenodo.18729652.

Research protocols

RESEARCH-PROTOCOL-001 published with its verdict: no steering effect. Scripts, logs and CSVs in the open.

Six sections and a platform specification; hosted publicly; established 2026-08-07.

Layer-1 inventory

17 workspaces

About 169,000 lines of Rust across 16 real workspaces and 1 placeholder, verified 2026-08-05; several runnable locally; none deployed to a public mainnet.

How it works

The research loop. A verdict of "no effect" is published with the same care as a positive one.

Figures reported by a repository's own documentation are labelled as such and, where we could count, our count is given alongside. Nothing here is an investment claim; the perimeter statement in the colophon applies.

Chapter 05

What is real today

Every row was checked against a served response or a test run on the date in the source line, not read from code.

Chapter 06

Trust and safeguards

Research code is labelled research. No token, asset or namespace is described as having value unless it has actually been issued, and none has. Keys found committed in older research repositories were flagged for rotation and the finding is recorded, not hidden.

Chapter 07

Economics

Open work is unpriced. It exists to make the priced work checkable.

Chapter 08

Next phase

Publish PROTOCOL-002; independent re-run of the Genesis figures; decide which Layer-1 workspace, if any, graduates to a public test network, under the one-way-door rule.
